Searches for New Physics in Single Photon Events and a Search for Charginos at the DELPHI Experiment

Abstract
A search for new physics using events with a single photon and missing energy has been made at the DELPHI experiment together with a search for charginos. The results were based on data collected up to and including the final year of 2000. An integrated luminosity of 650 pb^-1 was used in the single photon analysis and 450 pb^-1 in the chargino search. Center-of-mass energies up to 209 GeV were explored. Searches have been made for supersymmetry as well as for extra dimensions and non standard neutrino interactions. Since no signs of a signal have been observed in any of the searches the results have been used to set exclusion limits and to constrain the theoretical parameter spaces. För en problemfri teoretisk modell krävs att ytterligare partiklar, utöver de tillhörande SM, existerar och de skulle i så fall ge upphov till nya fenomen som endast kan observeras i experiment vid dagens kraftfullaste partikel-acceleratorer. Denna avhandling beskriver sökandet efter dessa nya partiklar inom två olika analyser vid DELPHI experimentet på CERN, enfoton-analysen och chargino-analysen. DELPHI var ett av de bäst lämpade experimenten för denna typ av studier och inom de två analyserna letades efter fenomen från supersymmetriska partiklar, extra dimensioner samt nya neutrino-växelverkningar. Inga tecken på nya fenomen observerades och resultaten användes därför till att begränsa möjligheterna för de utvidgade modellerna av SM. Detta ger viktig information om vad som fortfarande kan vara en korrekt beskrivning av universum på partikelnivå och om vilka vägar som är de mest relevanta för det fortsatta sökandet. (Less)
