Acoustically robust light weight constructions require controlled building process

Abstract

Acoustically robust light weight constructions in multifamily houses require that the building processes are taken into account, i.e. it is necessary to describe in detail how to erect the house on site in order to fulfill the final result. Performance of details necessary for stability reasons, connections in joints, fixing of final strips etc have to be described clearly in order to achieve the project goals. One project has been carried out over the last three years called Masonite flexible building system, Industrial Constructive Cooperation (MICC). Acoustically robust light weight constructions in multifamily houses require that the building processes are taken into account, i.e. it is necessary to describe in detail how to erect the house on site in order to fulfill the final result. Performance of details necessary for stability reasons, connections in joints, fixing of final strips etc have to be described clearly in order to achieve the project goals. One project has been carried out over the last three years called Masonite flexible building system, Industrial Constructive Cooperation (MICC). The aim was to specify an open flexible light weight building system and to develop a management system in order to secure the final result in any technical aspect. Some important aspects are pointed out and still some evaluation is ongoing. MICC has been applied in one particular project in Sweden, project no. 1, and there is one more that might start soon. Project no. 1 is a two - storey multifamily building for elderly with high sound insulation requirements for the floor structure, sound class B according to the Swedish standard SS 25267. During the final part of the project some acoustic topics were further evaluated since the acoustic behaviour clearly were affected by potential errors emerged during the erection of the building. In this paper important building process aspects, connected to acoustic performance are presented and the results are compared to another project, project no. 2 (by Masonite Light Element AB). The latter project is not included in MICC.
