Abstract
The effect of Ca++, Mg++, K+ and SO=4, and of serum, on the activity of testis hyaluronidase in a carbonic acid-bicarbonate buffer with pH 7.4 was investigated with the turbidimetric method. The ions were added in amounts corresponding to the serum concentration of the ion in question. The turbidity of hyaluronic acid was not modified by the investigated ions nor by serum up to 0.10 ml.
The hyaluronidase activity showed a tendency to increase in presence of Ca++, to be decreased by Mg++ and K+, whereas SO=4 gave no significant change. The serum effect on the hyaluronidase activity increased in presence of Mg++, was decreased by Ca++, and was not changed by K+ and SO=4. Besides the inhibitor known already, a factor which increased the hyaluronidase activity was found in the serum. (Less)
