Abstract
Scientific communication presumes a well functioning infor¬mation and documentation system. Information retrieval systems have been designed for making possible rapid and precise answers to inquiries. This report includes (1) a short survey of international and national documentation activities, (2) a description of rules and criteria to be used and the way these can be applied in an information retrieval system, and (3) some empirical results, identifying the needs for information and the uses to which the information will be put.
