One reason is the large influx of immigrants to Sweden in 2016. This paper aims to measure self-sufficiency over time, across the life cycle, depending on geographical origin, and time spent in Sweden to provide information about how self-sufficiency has developed over time and across the life cycle. To address the potential problem of lack of self-sufficiency knowledge about its extent and predominance in certain groups is essential. Detailed register data on the entire population in Sweden are used to study the ability to support oneself. Results show that the self-sufficiency rate has improved since 2016, the year Sweden received many immigrants. However, among those who are not self-sufficient, the dependence on the public has increased. There are signs that the welfare state’s redistributive role over the life cycle has decreased over time, both in younger and older ages. Furthermore, the self-sufficiency rate is lower for individuals born outside of Sweden but increases the longer they have resided in Sweden.</p>
<relatedItem type="constituent"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <originInfo> <publisher>Routledge</publisher> <dateIssued encoding="w3cdtf">2025</dateIssued> </originInfo>
<languageTerm authority="iso639-2b" type="code">eng</languageTerm>
<subject> <topic>Immigration</topic> <topic>life-cycle transfers</topic> <topic>self-sufficiency</topic> <topic>transfers</topic> </subject> <subject authority="lup"> <topic>Social Work</topic> <topic>Economics</topic> </subject> <relatedItem type="host"> <titleInfo>
Journal of Poverty
</titleInfo> <identifier type="issn">1087-5549</identifier> <identifier type="Scopus">85198555843</identifier> <identifier type="doi">10.1080/10875549.2024.2379763</identifier> <location>
</location> <part> <detail type="volume"> <number>29</number> </detail> <detail type="issue"> <number>4</number> </detail> <extent unit="pages"> <start>345</start> <end>362</end> <total>18</total> </extent> </part> </relatedItem> <relatedItem type="link"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <recordInfo> <recordIdentifier>264a847e-6b53-4382-a6ec-0eead980997d</recordIdentifier> <recordCreationDate encoding="w3cdtf">2024-11-28T12:25:27+01:00</recordCreationDate> <recordChangeDate encoding="w3cdtf">2026-02-07T02:30:05+01:00</recordChangeDate> <recordDateApproved encoding="w3cdtf">2024-11-28T12:25:27+01:00</recordDateApproved> </recordInfo> </mods></recordData><recordPosition>3</recordPosition></record>

The Soviet demand, ever since November 1944, for the total extradition of<br/>the approximately 30,000 Baltic refugees in Sweden was suddenly dropped and a<br/>number of measures were taken by Moscow to accomplish a rapprochement between<br/>the two countries. On the basis of recently declassified Soviet encrypted diplomatic<br/>correspondence between the Soviet mission in Stockholm and the Soviet foreign<br/>ministry for the years 1944–1947, this article analyses the way in which the Soviet<br/>envoy to Sweden, Il’ia Chernyshev, represented Swedish affairs before his superiors in<br/>Moscow, and how these representations may have contributed to Moscow’s decision<br/>to revise its policy towards Sweden.
<relatedItem type="constituent"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <originInfo> <publisher>Routledge</publisher> <dateIssued encoding="w3cdtf">2015</dateIssued> </originInfo>
<languageTerm authority="iso639-2b" type="code">eng</languageTerm>
<subject authority="lup"> <topic>Political Science</topic> </subject> <relatedItem type="host"> <titleInfo>
Cold War History
</titleInfo> <identifier type="Scopus">84922375324</identifier> <identifier type="doi">10.1080/14682745.2014.920825</identifier> <location>
</location> <accessCondition type="restrictionOnAccess">yes</accessCondition> <part> <detail type="volume"> <number>15</number> </detail> <detail type="issue"> <number>1</number> </detail> <extent unit="pages"> <start>27</start> <end>48</end> <total>21</total> </extent> </part> </relatedItem> <relatedItem type="link"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <note type="nonLu">yes</note> <recordInfo> <recordIdentifier>d54417f1-1252-4a8c-9ff6-adba5424bf3e</recordIdentifier> <recordCreationDate encoding="w3cdtf">2022-03-18T08:19:53+01:00</recordCreationDate> <recordChangeDate encoding="w3cdtf">2025-10-14T09:44:01+02:00</recordChangeDate> <recordDateApproved encoding="w3cdtf">2022-03-18T08:19:53+01:00</recordDateApproved> </recordInfo> </mods></recordData><recordPosition>4</recordPosition></record>

Equally, the colony's importance in the historical narrative of early modern Sweden and colonial America has been modest. However, more recent research on Scandinavian involvement in the Atlantic economy and early modern politics at home and abroad shows that Sweden was actively involved in producing and advancing a colonial agenda and that the relatively short-lived colonial venture in America had long-term effects and consequences.<br/><br/>Taking the point of departure in a critical review of the scholarship on New Sweden, this article examines the common image of the colony and identifies several blind spots and points of convergence between New Sweden and Sweden’s other colonial projects. Informed by postcolonial approaches the article examines colonial rhetoric and logic underlying the interactions between the Swedes and the Native Americans and foregrounds practices of the Swedish community in America. It explores the connections between Sweden and the Swedish community in America throughout the 17th and 18th century and the impact of these connections (and this colonial venture) in Sweden and America. The article also draws attention to the close relations and parallels between the colonial practice in New Sweden and Sápmi. This analysis sheds new light on the colony and its role in Sweden and America in the 17th as well as in the 20th century.
<relatedItem type="constituent"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <originInfo> <publisher>eScholarship University of California</publisher> <dateIssued encoding="w3cdtf">2016</dateIssued> </originInfo>
<languageTerm authority="iso639-2b" type="code">eng</languageTerm>
<subject authority="lup"> <topic>History</topic> </subject> <relatedItem type="host"> <titleInfo>
Journal of Transnational American Studies
</titleInfo> <identifier type="issn">1940-0764</identifier> <identifier type="doi">10.5070/T871030644</identifier> <location>
</location> <part> <detail type="volume"> <number>7</number> </detail> <detail type="issue"> <number>1</number> </detail> <extent unit="pages"> <total>23</total> </extent> </part> </relatedItem> <note type="nonLu">yes</note> <recordInfo> <recordIdentifier>55693b35-dcd2-4fa0-96c9-1d863f0480bb</recordIdentifier> <recordCreationDate encoding="w3cdtf">2023-09-12T20:36:39+02:00</recordCreationDate> <recordChangeDate encoding="w3cdtf">2025-04-04T13:55:22+02:00</recordChangeDate> <recordDateApproved encoding="w3cdtf">2023-09-12T20:36:39+02:00</recordDateApproved> </recordInfo> </mods></recordData><recordPosition>5</recordPosition></record>

It is estimated that there were 700 cinemas in Sweden in 1919, twice the amount compared to 1914. The subtype HIV-1A6, which may be prone to developing resistance to cabotegravir, is the most common subtype in Ukraine.AimWe aimed to examine trends in HIV-1 subtype distribution in Sweden, with a special focus on HIV-1A6, and to describe the virology, demography and treatment of Ukrainian people living with HIV (PLWH) who migrated to Sweden in 2022.MethodsData about PLWH in Sweden are included in a national database (InfCareHIV). We used the online tool COMET to establish HIV-1 subtypes and the Stanford database to define drug resistance mutations. We investigated the relation between virological characteristics and demographic data.ResultsThe early epidemic was predominated by HIV-1 subtype B infections in people born in Sweden. After 1990, the majority of new PLWH in Sweden were PLWH migrating to Sweden, resulting in an increasingly diverse epidemic. In 2022, HIV-1A6 had become the sixth most common subtype in Sweden and 98 of the 431 new PLWH that were registered in Sweden came from Ukraine. We detected HIV RNA in plasma of 32 Ukrainian patients (34%), of whom 17 were previously undiagnosed, 10 had interrupted therapy and five were previously diagnosed but not treated. We found HIV-1A6 in 23 of 24 sequenced patients.ConclusionThe molecular HIV epidemiology in Sweden continues to diversify and PLWH unaware of their HIV status and predominance of HIV-1A6 should be considered when arranging care directed at PLWH from Ukraine.</p>
<relatedItem type="constituent"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <originInfo> <publisher>European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC)</publisher> <dateIssued encoding="w3cdtf">2023-11</dateIssued> </originInfo>
<languageTerm authority="iso639-2b" type="code">eng</languageTerm>
<subject authority="lup"> <topic>Health Sciences</topic> </subject> <relatedItem type="host"> <titleInfo>
Euro surveillance : bulletin Europeen sur les maladies transmissibles = European communicable disease bulletin
</titleInfo> <identifier type="issn">1560-7917</identifier> <identifier type="PMID">38037731</identifier> <identifier type="Scopus">85178514892</identifier> <identifier type="doi">10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2023.28.48.2300224</identifier> <location>
</location> <part> <detail type="volume"> <number>28</number> </detail> <detail type="issue"> <number>48</number> </detail> <extent unit="pages"> <total>13</total> </extent> </part> </relatedItem> <relatedItem type="link"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <recordInfo> <recordIdentifier>c80b304d-d78e-4408-910d-4a8344cc5f94</recordIdentifier> <recordCreationDate encoding="w3cdtf">2023-12-02T08:51:38+01:00</recordCreationDate> <recordChangeDate encoding="w3cdtf">2026-05-26T22:14:30+02:00</recordChangeDate> <recordDateApproved encoding="w3cdtf">2023-12-02T08:51:38+01:00</recordDateApproved> </recordInfo> </mods></recordData><recordPosition>7</recordPosition></record>

We ask ourselves if this is a correct conclusion, considering the fact that the three largest parties in the poll were of roughly the same size. We analyse the parameter space and identify the subspace where the Sweden Democrats are the largest party. Using this we construct a maximum likelihood ratio test and derive its distribution under the null hypothesis. We finally apply our test to the data and obtaining a p-value between 0.09 and 0.14 are able to refute the claim in the newspaper. It is here argued that the year 2000 did not mean disestablishment; though formally not a state governed church, the Church of Sweden is still intimately tied to the state in several areas. Even though the Church of Sweden is formally resolved from state control, the Church of Sweden Act still provides the legal framework within which the church operates. The state also supports the Church of Sweden (together with other recognized religious organizations) by levying the church membership fee. Other areas that presuppose a continued link include that of church's responsibility for burial grounds and proprietor of a large part of the nation's cultural heritage. Yet, the public position of organized religion is contested. Religious organizations are increasingly given a place within the field of social welfare.
<relatedItem type="constituent"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <originInfo> <publisher>Vandenhoeck and Ruprecht GmbH and Co. The main aim of this study was to explore the temporal trends and spatial patterns of CVD in Sweden using spatial autocorrelation analyses.</p><p>METHODS: The CVD admission rates between 2000 and 2010 throughout Sweden were entered as the input disease data for the analytic processes performed for the Swedish capital, Stockholm, and also for the whole of Sweden. Age-adjusted admission rates were calculated using a direct standardisation approach for men and women, and temporal trends analysis were performed on the standardised rates. Global Moran's I was used to explore the structure of patterns and Anselin's local Moran's I, together with Kulldorff's scan statistic were applied to explore the geographical patterns of admission rates.</p><p>RESULTS: The rates followed a spatially clustered pattern in Sweden with differences occurring between sexes. Accordingly, hot spots were identified in northern Sweden, with higher intensity identified for men, together with clusters in central Sweden. Cold spots were identified in the adjacency of the three major Swedish cities of Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö.</p><p>CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study can serve as a basis for distribution of health-care resources, preventive measures and exploration of aetiological factors.</p>
<relatedItem type="constituent"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <originInfo> <publisher>SAGE Publications</publisher> <dateIssued encoding="w3cdtf">2018-08</dateIssued> </originInfo>
<languageTerm authority="iso639-2b" type="code">eng</languageTerm>
<subject authority="lup"> <topic>Health Sciences</topic> </subject> <relatedItem type="host"> <titleInfo>
Scandinavian Journal of Public Health
</titleInfo> <identifier type="issn">1651-1905</identifier> <identifier type="PMID">29911498</identifier> <identifier type="Scopus">85049031950</identifier> <identifier type="doi">10.1177/1403494818780845</identifier> <location>
</location> <accessCondition type="restrictionOnAccess">yes</accessCondition> <part> <detail type="volume"> <number>46</number> </detail> <detail type="issue"> <number>6</number> </detail> <extent unit="pages"> <start>647</start> <end>658</end> </extent> </part> </relatedItem> <relatedItem type="link"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <recordInfo> <recordIdentifier>5f2ca55f-e280-45f2-962e-bcf34086cd1a</recordIdentifier> <recordCreationDate encoding="w3cdtf">2018-06-28T09:42:33+02:00</recordCreationDate> <recordChangeDate encoding="w3cdtf">2026-05-30T19:23:54+02:00</recordChangeDate> <recordDateApproved encoding="w3cdtf">2018-06-28T09:42:33+02:00</recordDateApproved> </recordInfo> </mods></recordData><recordPosition>12</recordPosition></record>

Methods: Published estimates on relative risks and Swedish smoking patterns were used to calculate attributable risks for smokers and former smokers. These were applied to cost estimates for smoking-related diseases based on data from public Swedish registers. Results: The estimated total cost for Sweden 2001 was US$ 804 million; COPD and cancer of the lung accounted for 43%. Healthcare cost accounted for 26% of the total cost. The estimated costs per smoker were US$ 3,200 in the USA 1998; 1,600 in Canada 1991; 1,100 in Germany 1996; 600 in Sweden 2001; and 300 in Sweden 1980 (all in 2001 US$ prices). Conclusions: To reduce the prevalence of smoking is an issue worthwhile pursuing in its own right. In order to reduce the cost of smoking, however, policy-makers should also explore and influence the factors that determine the cost per smoker. Sweden seems to have been more successful than comparable countries in pursuing both these objectives.
<relatedItem type="constituent"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <originInfo> <publisher>SAGE Publications</publisher> <dateIssued encoding="w3cdtf">2007</dateIssued> </originInfo>
<languageTerm authority="iso639-2b" type="code">eng</languageTerm>
<subject> <topic>Health Care Costs</topic> <topic>Germany: epidemiology</topic> <topic>Female</topic> <topic>Efficiency</topic> <topic>Canada: epidemiology</topic> <topic>80 and over</topic> <topic>Middle Aged</topic> <topic>Male</topic> <topic>Health: economics</topic> <topic>Aged</topic> <topic>Adult</topic> <topic>Mortality</topic> <topic>Morbidity</topic> <topic>Registries</topic> <topic>Risk Factors</topic> <topic>Insurance</topic> <topic>Humans</topic> <topic>Smoking: adverse effects</topic> <topic>Sick Leave</topic> <topic>Smoking: economics</topic> <topic>Sweden: epidemiology</topic> <topic>United States: epidemiology</topic> </subject> <subject authority="lup"> <topic>Health Sciences</topic> </subject> <relatedItem type="host"> <location>
</location> <accessCondition type="restrictionOnAccess">yes</accessCondition> </relatedItem> <relatedItem type="host"> <titleInfo>
Scandinavian Journal of Public Health
</titleInfo> <identifier type="issn">1651-1905</identifier> <identifier type="oldLupId">167394</identifier> <identifier type="WOS">000245641500011</identifier> <identifier type="Scopus">34147111413</identifier> <identifier type="doi">10.1080/14034940600858557</identifier> <location>
</location> <accessCondition type="restrictionOnAccess">yes</accessCondition> <part> <detail type="volume"> <number>35</number> </detail> <detail type="issue"> <number>2</number> </detail> <extent unit="pages"> <start>187</start> <end>196</end> </extent> </part> </relatedItem> <relatedItem type="link"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <note type="additionalInfo">The information about affiliations in this record was updated in December 2015. Data were collected from six registries and are presented descriptively per 100,000 inhabitants. The risks among males in Sweden increased considerably in both lethal and non-lethal gun victimization and perpetration. Among males aged 15 to 29 there was a five-fold increase in risk for victimization in lethal and non-lethal gun violence during the 20-year observation period. In a comparative perspective the rate of gun homicide victimization among males 15 to 29 years was higher in Sweden compared to other Western European countries, while the risk for males over age 30 was at an average level. Based on the results of this study we conclude that gun violence among young males in Sweden has been on the rise and is at a high level compared to other Western European countries. The development of gun violence in Sweden can be characterized as endemic, prevalent in both population and socially vulnerable areas.</p>
<relatedItem type="constituent"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <originInfo> <publisher>Springer</publisher> <dateIssued encoding="w3cdtf">2019</dateIssued> </originInfo>
<languageTerm authority="iso639-2b" type="code">eng</languageTerm>
<subject> <topic>Attempted homicide</topic> <topic>Firearms</topic> <topic>Guns</topic> <topic>Homicide</topic> <topic>Hospitalization</topic> </subject> <subject authority="lup"> <topic>Sociology (excluding Social Work, Social Anthropology, Demography and Criminology)</topic> <topic>Law</topic> </subject> <relatedItem type="host"> <titleInfo>
European Journal on Criminal Policy and Research
</titleInfo> <identifier type="issn">0928-1371</identifier> <identifier type="Scopus">85046409495</identifier> <identifier type="doi">10.1007/s10610-018-9387-0</identifier> <location>
</location> <part> <detail type="volume"> <number>25</number> </detail> <detail type="issue"> <number>4</number> </detail> <extent unit="pages"> <start>365</start> <end>378</end> <total>14</total> </extent> </part> </relatedItem> <relatedItem type="link"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <recordInfo> <recordIdentifier>fd20d106-9812-4430-9467-a9de9cac0789</recordIdentifier> <recordCreationDate encoding="w3cdtf">2018-05-15T10:16:55+02:00</recordCreationDate> <recordChangeDate encoding="w3cdtf">2025-10-14T10:29:34+02:00</recordChangeDate> <recordDateApproved encoding="w3cdtf">2018-05-15T10:16:55+02:00</recordDateApproved> </recordInfo> </mods></recordData><recordPosition>14</recordPosition></record>

None of these publications, however, combined official statistics from the Swedish police, the National Council for Crime Prevention (NCCP), and the National Board of Health and Welfare (NBHW), to study firearm-related violence in the last 2 years: 2016-2017. The results of this study show that firearm-related violence in Sweden has greatly increased compared to other Scandinavian countries, especially in recent years. This is probably the reason for the increase in the rate of deadly violence. Further, the increasing number of gangs and criminal networks, as well as the high inflow of illegal firearms to Sweden, is believed to have contributed to the disturbing increase of firearm-related violence in the country. Although Sweden is one of the most democratic and freest countries in the world, and has some of the world's strictest gun laws, the country still faces significant firearm-related violence. This study not only reveals the increasing rate of firearm-related violence in Sweden, but also shows that Sweden is in dire need of additional policies to combat the illegal flow of firearms and to curb gang criminality.</p>
<relatedItem type="constituent"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <originInfo> <publisher>Taylor & Francis</publisher> <dateIssued encoding="w3cdtf">2019-03-19</dateIssued> </originInfo>
<languageTerm authority="iso639-2b" type="code">eng</languageTerm>
<subject> <topic>Firearm</topic> <topic>Firearm-Related Violence</topic> <topic>Deadly Violence</topic> <topic>Skjutvapen</topic> <topic>Dödligt våld</topic> </subject> <subject authority="lup"> <topic>Sociology (excluding Social Work, Social Anthropology, Demography and Criminology)</topic> <topic>Forensic Science</topic> </subject> <relatedItem type="host"> <titleInfo>
Forensic Sciences Research
</titleInfo> <identifier type="issn">2471-1411</identifier> <identifier type="PMID">30915421</identifier> <identifier type="Scopus">85063157965</identifier> <identifier type="doi">10.1080/20961790.2019.1570665</identifier> <location>
</location> <part> <detail type="volume"> <number>4</number> </detail> <detail type="issue"> <number>1</number> </detail> <extent unit="pages"> <start>88</start> <end>93</end> <total>6</total> </extent> </part> </relatedItem> <relatedItem type="link"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <relatedItem type="other"> <titleInfo>
2019 Holding Sweden hostage firearm related violence.pdf
</titleInfo> <location>
</location> <physicalDescription> <internetMediaType>application/pdf</internetMediaType> </physicalDescription> </relatedItem> <recordInfo> <recordIdentifier>95374a71-1be0-4f80-b306-95ec9f6c97ec</recordIdentifier> <recordCreationDate encoding="w3cdtf">2019-04-01T01:18:42+02:00</recordCreationDate> <recordChangeDate encoding="w3cdtf">2026-01-09T13:44:37+01:00</recordChangeDate> <recordDateApproved encoding="w3cdtf">2019-04-01T01:18:42+02:00</recordDateApproved> </recordInfo> </mods></recordData><recordPosition>15</recordPosition></record>

In addition the paper tries to establish whether immigrants who invest in different amounts of Swedish education also differ in their returns to schooling. For immigrants arriving in Sweden as adults, the returns to schooling are on average one log point lower than for natives. The results show that returns to schooling are considerably higher for immigrants who arrived in Sweden during compulsory school age than for immigrants who arrived in Sweden after compulsory school age. It offers an analysis of how the welfare chauvinism project is first contextualised in the party documents, and subsequently articulated in the party-endorsed parliamentary motions. The article is an analytical contribution to welfare studies and to analyses of the populist radical right, providing a critical inquiry into welfare chauvinism in Sweden. The historical co-optation of the Church by the state, a Lutheran theological heritage, and a trend from “voice to service” within Swedish civil society might discourage stronger political activism by the Church. The following research questions are answered: How does the extent of the advocacy activities of the Church of Sweden, understood as trying to influence politicians and officials and as achieving changes, differ from that of other civil society organizations (CSOs)? What factors explain differences in advocacy activities between the Church of Sweden and the other types of CSOs? How do the types of issues raised by the Church of Sweden through its influence differ from those of other CSOs? The article draws on a large sample (N = 1,150) from a national survey targeting Swedish civil society organizations. It compares the Church of Sweden with other organizations representing diffuse interests (i.e., religious congregations and solidarity organizations) and organizations representing specific interests (i.e., pensioners’ organizations). The analysis shows that the historical position of the Church has granted its organizations strength in terms of resources that make them more active in advocacy than comparable organizations representing diffuse interests. The Church of Sweden of the new millennium hence seems to be able to engage more in politics because of, rather than in spite of, its institutional role.
<relatedItem type="constituent"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <relatedItem type="constituent"> <location>
</location> <physicalDescription> <internetMediaType>application/pdf</internetMediaType> </physicalDescription> <note type="fileSize">219403</note> <accessCondition type="restrictionOnAccess">no</accessCondition> </relatedItem> <originInfo> <publisher>Akademika forlag</publisher> <dateIssued encoding="w3cdtf">2018-11-26</dateIssued> </originInfo>
<languageTerm authority="iso639-2b" type="code">eng</languageTerm>
<subject> <topic>Church of Sweden</topic> <topic>Lutheran Theology</topic> <topic>Advocacy</topic> <topic>Civil Society Organizations</topic> <topic>Religious organizations</topic> </subject> <subject authority="lup"> <topic>Social Work</topic> </subject> <relatedItem type="host"> <titleInfo>
Nordic Journal of Religion and Society
</titleInfo> <identifier type="issn">0809-7291</identifier> <identifier type="Scopus">85051383992</identifier> <identifier type="doi">10.18261/issn.1890-7008-2018-02-03</identifier> <location>
</location> <accessCondition type="restrictionOnAccess">yes</accessCondition> <part> <detail type="volume"> <number>31</number> </detail> <detail type="issue"> <number>2</number> </detail> <extent unit="pages"> <start>118</start> <end>138</end> </extent> </part> </relatedItem> <relatedItem type="link"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <recordInfo> <recordIdentifier>b9203b25-5f49-42a2-a421-dccf4612a3ed</recordIdentifier> <recordCreationDate encoding="w3cdtf">2018-11-26T21:18:20+01:00</recordCreationDate> <recordChangeDate encoding="w3cdtf">2025-10-14T11:49:27+02:00</recordChangeDate> <recordDateApproved encoding="w3cdtf">2018-11-26T21:18:20+01:00</recordDateApproved> </recordInfo> </mods></recordData><recordPosition>18</recordPosition></record>

However, whether this situation depends on genetics or environmental factors is uncertain. The authors examined these aspects in Sweden, a country in which the risk of CD is generally considered to be high. If environmental factors are relevant, CD risk in second-generation immigrant children should be related to maternal length of stay in Sweden before delivery. <br/><br> <br/><br> Material and methods:<br/><br> Linking the Swedish Medical Birth Registry to other national registries, the authors investigated all singleton children (n = 792,401) born in Sweden between 1987 and 1993. They studied the risk of CD in children before age 6 as a function of the mother's geographical region of birth and length of stay in Sweden before delivery using Cox regression models. <br/><br> <br/><br> Results: <br/><br> In children whose mothers immigrated to Sweden from a country outside of Europe, a maternal length of stay in Sweden of more than 5 years increased the hazard ratio (HR) of CD (1.73, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.06-2.81). The authors observed a similar result among children born to mothers from a Nordic country outside of Sweden (HR 1.57, 95% CI 0.89-2.75), but a non-conclusive protective effect was observed in second-generation immigrant children from a non-Nordic European country (HR 0.65, 95% CI 0.39-1.09). <br/><br> <br/><br> Conclusions:<br/><br> The risk of CD among second-generation immigrants seems to be conditioned by maternal length of stay in Sweden before delivery, suggesting that environmental factors contribute to the variation in CD risk observed across populations.
<relatedItem type="constituent"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <originInfo> <publisher>Taylor & Francis</publisher> <dateIssued encoding="w3cdtf">2012</dateIssued> </originInfo>
<languageTerm authority="iso639-2b" type="code">eng</languageTerm>
<subject authority="lup"> <topic>Gastroenterology and Hepatology</topic> </subject> <relatedItem type="host"> <location>
</location> <accessCondition type="restrictionOnAccess">yes</accessCondition> </relatedItem> <relatedItem type="host"> <titleInfo>
Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology
</titleInfo> <identifier type="issn">1502-7708</identifier> <identifier type="oldLupId">2966699</identifier> <identifier type="WOS">000308948400006</identifier> <identifier type="PMID">22827636</identifier> <identifier type="Scopus">84866604567</identifier> <identifier type="PMID">22827636</identifier> <identifier type="doi">10.3109/00365521.2012.703238</identifier> <location>
</location> <accessCondition type="restrictionOnAccess">yes</accessCondition> <part> <detail type="volume"> <number>47</number> </detail> <detail type="issue"> <number>10</number> </detail> <extent unit="pages"> <start>1174</start> <end>1180</end> </extent> </part> </relatedItem> <relatedItem type="link"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <recordInfo> <recordIdentifier>c3af92a3-18b2-4488-a996-c7c8be34396d</recordIdentifier> <recordCreationDate encoding="w3cdtf">2016-04-04T09:27:04+02:00</recordCreationDate> <recordChangeDate encoding="w3cdtf">2025-10-14T12:33:40+02:00</recordChangeDate> <recordDateApproved encoding="w3cdtf">2016-04-04T09:27:04+02:00</recordDateApproved> </recordInfo> </mods></recordData><recordPosition>19</recordPosition></record>

It is important to reassess the HIV epidemiological situation due to ever-changing migration patterns, the roll-out of PrEP and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.AimWe aimed to assess the progress towards the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets in Sweden by estimating the proportion of undiagnosed people with HIV (PWHIV) and HIV incidence trends.MethodsWe used routine laboratory data to inform a biomarker model of time since infection. When available, we used previous negative test dates, arrival dates for PWHIV from abroad and transmission modes to inform our incidence model. We also used data collected from the Swedish InfCareHIV register on antiretroviral therapy (ART).ResultsThe yearly incidence of HIV in Sweden decreased after 2014. In part, this was because the fraction of undiagnosed PWHIV had decreased almost twofold since 2006. After 2015, three of four PWHIV in Sweden were diagnosed within 1.9 and 3.2 years after infection among men who have sex with men and in heterosexual groups, respectively. While 80% of new PWHIV in Sweden acquired HIV before immigration, they make up 50% of the current PWHIV in Sweden. By 2022, 96% of all PWHIV in Sweden had been diagnosed, and 99% of them were on ART, with 98% virally suppressed.ConclusionsBy 2022, about half of all PWHIV in Sweden acquired HIV abroad. Using our new biomarker model, we assess that Sweden has reached the UNAIDS goal at 96-99-98.</p>
<relatedItem type="constituent"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <originInfo> <publisher>European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC)</publisher> <dateIssued encoding="w3cdtf">2024-10</dateIssued> </originInfo>
<languageTerm authority="iso639-2b" type="code">eng</languageTerm>
<subject> <topic>Humans</topic> <topic>Sweden/epidemiology</topic> <topic>HIV Infections/epidemiology</topic> <topic>Incidence</topic> <topic>Male</topic> <topic>Female</topic> <topic>HIV-1/drug effects</topic> <topic>COVID-19/epidemiology</topic> <topic>Adult</topic> <topic>SARS-CoV-2</topic> <topic>Middle Aged</topic> <topic>Homosexuality, Male/statistics & numerical data</topic> <topic>Pandemics</topic> <topic>Registries</topic> <topic>Anti-HIV Agents/therapeutic use</topic> <topic>Young Adult</topic> </subject> <subject authority="lup"> <topic>Health Sciences</topic> </subject> <relatedItem type="host"> <titleInfo>
Euro surveillance : bulletin Europeen sur les maladies transmissibles = European communicable disease bulletin
</titleInfo> <identifier type="issn">1560-7917</identifier> <identifier type="PMID">39421951</identifier> <identifier type="Scopus">85206816258</identifier> <identifier type="doi">10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2024.29.42.2400058</identifier> <location>
</location> <part> <detail type="volume"> <number>29</number> </detail> <detail type="issue"> <number>42</number> </detail> <detail type="artNo"> <number>2400058</number> </detail> </part> </relatedItem> <relatedItem type="link"> <location>
</location> </relatedItem> <recordInfo> <recordIdentifier>94f2de48-ac98-4101-aefa-d05a9359e61f</recordIdentifier> <recordCreationDate encoding="w3cdtf">2024-10-21T09:11:29+02:00</recordCreationDate> <recordChangeDate encoding="w3cdtf">2026-06-03T13:38:21+02:00</recordChangeDate> <recordDateApproved encoding="w3cdtf">2024-10-21T09:11:29+02:00</recordDateApproved> </recordInfo> </mods></recordData><recordPosition>20</recordPosition></record>
