Carlet, ClaudeGuilley, SylvainNitaj, AbderrahmaneSouidi, El MamounHell, MartinJohansson, ThomasMeier, WilliSönnerup, JonathanYoshida, Hirotaka2019A new Grain stream cipher, denoted Grain-128AEAD is presented, with support for authenticated encryption with associated data. The cipher takes a 128-bit key and a 96-bit IV and produces a pseudo random sequence that is used for encryption and authentication of messages. The design is based on Grain-128a but introduces a few changes in order to increase the security and protect against recent cryptanalysis results. The MAC is 64 bits, as specified by the NIST requirements in their lightweight security standardization process.https://lup.lub.lu.se/record/0806c8ca-a778-4abc-bf0d-4d64953bcaf1http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-030-16458-4_5ISBN: 978-3-030-16458-4ISBN: 978-3-030-16457-7scopus:85065499881engOther Computer and Information ScienceAn AEAD Variant of the Grain Stream Ciphercontributiontobookanthology/conferenceinfo:eu-repo/semantics/conferencePapertextThe concept of the term ‘refugee’

Melander, Göran2021In 1936, when the Provisional Agreement concerning the Status of Refugees coming from Germany was adopted, the same course was followed: the term refugee covered all persons coming from Germany. The definition of the term refugee was not established by the adoption of the 1967 Refugee Protocol, which created a more or less complete correspondence between the mandate of the UNHCR and treaty law. From a legal point of view, only the African states and the Organization of African Unity have drawn the conclusion that it is necessary to adapt the definition of the term ‘refugee’ to present needs. On the whole it covers, however, the actual need and it is an attempt to describe in legal terms the refugees/displaced persons, assisted through the good offices of the UNHCR. In addition some countries apply a restrictive interpretation of the term refugee in the Convention, but do return or expel those denied Convention refugee status.https://lup.lub.lu.se/record/b560904c-8bb5-4eba-9669-ebea3ab11cf1http://dx.doi.org/10.4324/9781003211709-1ISBN: 9781000459463ISBN: 9781032078212scopus:85133097444engLaw (excluding Law and Society)The concept of the term ‘refugee’contributiontobookanthology/chapterinfo:eu-repo/semantics/bookParttextAge, vulnerability and disability

Doron, IsraelGeorgantzi, NenaMattsson, Titti2018-11-30This chapter is one of two theoretical pieces in this international collection. The aim is to challenge the traditional perception of who is a vulnerable person by discussing the concept from the vulnerability theory standpoint that basically accepts vulnerability as a universal state of being. It discusses the risk that the distribution of public services ends up being based on age absent considered rationale or practical or policy benefits, which in practice becomes an ageist approach.https://lup.lub.lu.se/record/d5c5857d-cd69-45f0-84ba-4cc85238a80chttp://dx.doi.org/10.4337/9781788972116.00009ISBN: 9781788972116ISBN: 9781788972109scopus:85075848356engLaw and SocietySocial welfare lawElder lawSocialrättÄldrerättAge, vulnerability and disabilitycontributiontobookanthology/chapterinfo:eu-repo/semantics/bookParttextMPEG reconfigurable video coding

Mattavelli, MarcoJanneck, Jorn W.Raulet, Mickaël2018-10-13The current monolithic and lengthy scheme behind the standardization and the design of new video coding standards is becoming inappropriate to satisfy the dynamism and changing needs of the video coding community. Such a scheme and specification formalism do not enable designers to exploit the clear commonalities between the different codecs, neither at the level of the specification nor at the level of the implementation. Such a problem is one of the main reasons for the typical long time interval elapsing between the time a new idea is validated until it is implemented in consumer products as part of a worldwide standard. The analysis of this problem originated a new standard initiative within the ISO/IEC MPEG committee, called Reconfigurable Video Coding (RVC). The main idea is to develop a video coding standard that overcomes many shortcomings of the current standardization and specification process by updating and progressively incrementing a modular library of components. As the name implies, flexibility and reconfigurability are new attractive features of the RVC standard. The RVC framework is based on the usage of a new actor/dataflow oriented language called CAL for the specification of the standard library and the instantiation of the RVC decoder model. CAL dataflow models expose the intrinsic concurrency of the algorithms by employing the notions of actor programming and dataflow. This chapter gives an overview of the concepts and technologies building the standard RVC framework and the non standard tools supporting the RVC model from the instantiation and simulation of the CAL model to the software and/or hardware code synthesis.https://lup.lub.lu.se/record/a6ff60a9-1095-40d1-be57-420bf6877a8ahttp://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-319-91734-4_7ISBN: 9783319917344ISBN: 9783319917337scopus:85063781869engSignal ProcessingMPEG reconfigurable video codingcontributiontobookanthology/chapterinfo:eu-repo/semantics/bookParttextPushing the Online Matrix-Vector Conjecture Off-Line and Identifying Its Easy Cases

Gasieniec, LeszekJansson, JesperLevcopoulos, ChristosLingas, AndrzejPersson, Mia2019-04-09Henzinger et al. posed the so called Online Boolean Matrix-vector Multiplication (OMv) conjecture and showed that it implies tight hardness results for several basic partially dynamic or dynamic problems [STOC’15].We show that the OMv conjecture is implied by a simple off-line conjecture. If a not uniform (i.e., it might be different for different matrices) polynomial-time preprocessing of the matrix in the OMv conjecture is allowed then we can show such a variant of the OMv conjecture to be equivalent to our off-line conjecture. On the other hand, we show that the OMV conjecture does not hold in the restricted cases when the rows of the matrix or the input vectors are clustered.https://lup.lub.lu.se/record/fc31a0f2-8539-4908-b28b-72e546e84bc3http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-030-18126-0_14ISBN: 978-3-030-18126-0ISBN: 978-3-030-18125-3scopus:85065315076engLecture Notes in Computer Science; 11458, pp 156-169 (2019)ISSN: 0302-9743ISSN: 1611-3349Computer SciencePushing the Online Matrix-Vector Conjecture Off-Line and Identifying Its Easy Casescontributiontobookanthology/conferenceinfo:eu-repo/semantics/conferencePapertextProLCA – treatment of uncertainty in infrastructure LCA

Caspeele, RobbyTaerwe, LucFrangopol, Dan M.Larsson Ivanov, OskarHonfi, DanielSantandrea, FabioStripple, Håkan2018The construction, operation and maintenance of transportation infrastructure require energy and materials which impact the environment. Large infrastructure projects thus use resources intensively and leave a significant environmental footprint. To demonstrate and support the sustainability of such large-scale projects, life cycle assessment (LCA) has become a common tool to evaluate environmental impacts in all stages of infrastructure life cycle, from raw material production through end-of-life management. However, the various phases of the assessment are all associated with uncertainties. If decisions are made without consideration of these uncertainties, they might be misleading and suboptimal. In this paper, results are presented where variations associated with different parameters and tools for life cycle assessment have been considered using probabilistic methods. A categorization of common uncertainties in LCA is also included. The most influential parameters can be identified with sensitivity analysis methods, since for LCA with a large number of parameters it may be unreasonable to incorporate all in a probabilistic simulation. For a limited amount of influential variables, Monte Carlo simulation has been used to assess the effects of uncertainties on the results. A bridge has been used as a case study to find important aspects in infrastructure LCA. The results indicate that if the most influential parameters are considered as random variables, it is possible to estimate the uncertainty and increase the validity of the life cycle assessment.https://lup.lub.lu.se/record/e377ed01-d969-4c84-8b2a-ed3b4f02e6d0ISBN: 9781351857574ISBN: 9781138626331scopus:85063939612engInfrastructure EngineeringProLCA – treatment of uncertainty in infrastructure LCAcontributiontobookanthology/conferenceinfo:eu-repo/semantics/conferencePapertextReliability Analysis of Corroded Reinforced Concrete Beam with regards to Anchorage Failure

Caspeele, RobbyTaerwe, LucFrangopol, DanBlomfors, MattiasHonfi, DanielLarsson Ivanov, OskarLundgren, KarinZandi, Kamyab2018Reinforcement corrosion is a common problem in reinforced concrete infrastructure today, and it is expected to increase in the future. To simply replace the corroded structures with new ones requires large resources, both in financial and environmental terms. Therefore it is important that existing structures are used to their full potential, also after the onset of corrosion. This paper presents a reliability study of the anchorage capacity of a reinforced concrete beam including reinforcement corrosion. The sensitivity of the different input parameters is also studied. As expected, the results show that the reliability is reduced with corrosion; the magni- tude depends to a large extent on the modelling uncertainty used for the bond model for corroded reinforcement. The sensitivity analysis shows an influence of corrosion also on the sensitivities of the input parameters, which is expected based on the properties of the underlying bond model. This paper demonstrates that probabilistic evaluations give valuable insight of the reliability, which can be used to prolong the service-life of existing infrastructure and save both money and the environment.https://lup.lub.lu.se/record/ca371e20-4d9f-4f65-a7c5-a73fa36d4988ISBN: 9781351857574ISBN: 978-113862633-1scopus:85063951120engInfrastructure EngineeringReliability Analysis of Corroded Reinforced Concrete Beam with regards to Anchorage Failurecontributiontobookanthology/conferenceinfo:eu-repo/semantics/conferencePapertextSystem, norm and meaning

Haines, EricAkenine-Möller, TomasMoreau, PierreClarberg, Petrik2019-03-18The introduction of standardized APIs for ray tracing, together with hardware acceleration, opens up possibilities for physically based lighting in real-time rendering. Light importance sampling is one of the fundamental operations in light transport simulations, applicable to both direct and indirect illumination. This chapter describes a bounding volume hierarchy data structure and associated sampling methods to accelerate importance sampling of local light sources. The work is based on recently published methods for light sampling in production rendering, but it is evaluated in a real-time implementation using Microsoft DirectX Raytracing.https://lup.lub.lu.se/record/dd78178a-ce5d-460f-95b2-adc09b4ca142http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-1-4842-4427-2_18ISBN: 978-1-4842-4427-2ISBN: 978-1-4842-4426-5scopus:85071499777engComputer ScienceImportance Sampling of Many Lights on the GPUcontributiontobookanthology/chapterinfo:eu-repo/semantics/bookParttextGrowing and Characterizing Biofilms Formed by Streptococcus pneumoniae

Chao, YashuanBergenfelz, CarolineHakansson, Anders P2019It is estimated that over 80% of bacterial infections are associated with biofilm formation. Biofilms are organized bacterial communities formed on abiotic surfaces, such as implanted or inserted medical devices, or on biological surfaces, such as epithelial linings and mucosal surfaces. Biofilm growth is advantageous for the bacterial organism as it protects the bacteria from antimicrobial host factors and allows the bacteria to reside in the host without causing excessive inflammation. Like many other opportunistic pathogens of the respiratory tract, Streptococcus pneumoniae forms biofilms during asymptomatic carriage, which promotes, among other things, persistence in the niche, intraspecies and interspecies communication, and spread of bacterial DNA. Changes within the colonizing environment resulting from host assaults, such as virus infection, can induce biofilm dispersion where bacteria leave the biofilm and disseminate to other sites with ensuing infection. In this chapter, we present methodology to form complex biofilms in the nasopharynx of mice and to evaluate the biofilm structure and function in this environment. Furthermore, we present methods that recapitulate this biofilm phenotype in vitro by incorporating crucial factors associated with the host environment and describe how these models can be used to study biofilm function, transformation, and dispersion.https://lup.lub.lu.se/record/b766f62b-9559-4929-9dd5-feaed2f80f45http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-1-4939-9199-0_13ISBN: 978-1-4939-9199-0ISBN: 978-1-4939-9198-3pmid:30929213scopus:85063980293engMethods in molecular biology (Clifton, N.J.); 1968, pp 147-171 (2019)ISSN: 1940-6029Infectious MedicineGrowing and Characterizing Biofilms Formed by Streptococcus pneumoniaecontributiontobookanthology/chapterinfo:eu-repo/semantics/bookParttext
