  abstract     = {{Wild edible fruits are underexplored sources of nutrients and bioactives. This study assessed the bioactive profile and <em>in vitro</em> functional properties of four Mozambican wild fruits: <em>Adansonia digitata</em> (AD), <em>Dialium schlechteri</em> (DS), <em>Garcinia livingstonei</em> (GL), and <em>Syzygium cordatum</em><br>
 (SC). Phenolic compounds (PCs), dietary fibers (DF), minerals, and <br>
sugars were analyzed along with phenolic bioaccessibility, antioxidant <br>
capacity, and intestinal health. Results (on dw) varied significantly: <br>
AD was richest in DF (49.98 g/100 g), while SC in identified PCs <br>
(456 µg/g). All fruits provided essential minerals, particularly calcium<br>
 and iron. 50 – 70% of total PCs were digested, 31 – 49% became <br>
bioaccessible partially retaining their antioxidant activity. The <br>
intestinal tissue model showed moderate antioxidant responses with <br>
variable effects on barrier function. These findings, derived from <em>in vitro</em><br>
 models, highlight the complementary bioactive properties of these <br>
fruits and their potential to contribute to healthier and more diverse <br>
diets in Mozambique. However, further <em>in vivo</em> studies are required to confirm their bioavailability, interactions with gut microbiota, and physiological relevance.}},
