  abstract     = {{Corrosion of embedded steel liners in nuclear containments threatens structural integrity and is challenging to detect. Acoustic emission (AE) and nonlinear ultrasonic cross-modulation were applied to monitor cracking in a concrete cube with an embedded steel plate under galvanostatic corrosion. AE showed intense early activity from rapid crack initiation. The modulation index (MI) dropped during major crack opening, rose as corrosion products partly re-closed microcracks, and decreased again as damage stabilized. AE captured transient fracture events, while cross-modulation reflected evolving contact nonlinearity. Although the accelerated corrosion limits early-stage evaluation, the methods together demonstrate promise for tracking corrosion-induced cracking in reinforced concrete.}},
