While the third sector can bring a significant amount of value to healthcare, enlisting third sector actors as reinforcements to the welfare system can contribute to shifting responsibility out of the public sector. Our research therefore critically considers how establishing collaboration between civil society and health and social care providers (HSCPs) can enhance care outcomes for users while also contributing to making care systems more equitable and sustainable.
