  abstract     = {{This study has aimed to examine how group dynamics manifest themselves in institutional homes for girls. The other purpose has been to examine how these processes influence the treatment relationship and conditions for change. The study has been carried out using qualitative research methods based on interviews. Four people who either previously worked or currently work in institutional homes were interviewed. The analysis of the collected material was later done with a thematic analysis. The study has also taken a starting point in Erving Goffman's theory of total institutions in research on the application and significance of group processes. The results of this study have shown that group dynamics can manifest themselves in different ways, both through positive and negative expressions. Alliances, hierarchies, and shared experiences among the girls are some of the examples that the studies result presents. In particular, the results have shown that the group process has a significant impact on the staff's establishment of relationships with the girls and that this can also affect the conditions for further results of the treatment.}},
