abstract = {{The study aimed to examine whether children’s school absenteeism affects parents in terms of their well-being, communication, and everyday life. The sample was collected using convenience sampling, and the studied population consisted of parents in Sweden with children under the age of 18 attending elementary or upper secondary school. The study was conducted through a quantitative method, and the data were collected through a survey. The results were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses. The results show that a majority of respondents perceived their children as being absent from school in general, and that absence occurred several times per week. The study’s strongest finding is that conflicts between parents and children, regarding school absenteeism, are strongly associated with poor parental well-being. Furthermore, the results indicate that the number of children does not affect parental well-being; however, it does influence parental communication. Additional findings showed that broader communication was not associated with better parental well-being. Moreover, parents who were aware that their children had unauthorized school absence reported better well-being. Finally, the results show that awareness of children’s activities during their absence from school harmed parents.}},
