abstract = {{Waste is one of our largest environmental problems. In its wake follows waste crime that has become a growing societal challenge in every imaginable level in our society. The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to examine if the municipal waste organisations in Scania experience any criminality, organized and unorganized, in the waste trade and how they take crime prevention measures. To illuminate if there have been any changes during the last five year-period, comparisons have also been made with the last study that took place in the year 2021. Seven municipal waste organisations participated. All of them answered eleven questions during semi-structured interviews. In comparison to earlier study, the thefts have decreased but fraudulent behavior and illegal dumping has increased and lately electronic waste has been more sought-after. The municipal waste organisations in Scania had several suggestions to prevent waste crime and improve the clearance rate of waste crimes on a regional and national level, for example more resources to regulatory authorities and judiciary. The government's work against waste crime and organized crime seems to have intensified during the last years. It is a field in transformation with inquiries, legislative proposals and new legislation. This could lead to higher risks to get discovered while doing criminal activity in the waste trade and the legal consequences get more severe. In the long run it could lead to decreased waste crime and organized crime, the state gets a few more billions than before and less amount of environmental toxins leaks out into the soil and water.}},
