Title: ”Don’t enter the stage until you know what you want to say” - a study on interdisciplinary work in a choir context
Authors: Halldór Karvel Bjarnason, Sara Servin & Linus Sjösten

Scenic choir is a growing phenomenon in the choral world at large. Increasingly, choir singers are no longer simply standing still in a formation commonly referred to as a Choir banana, holding their music folder while performing rehearsed music: the times are changing. This reflection has led us, as music teacher students at the Malmö Academy of Music, to conduct an Action Research study aiming to explore how a choir director can work interdisciplinarily with their choir. Furthermore, we have researched how participating choir members perceived working interdisciplinarily by conducting three workshops with the choir Bella Voce - Lund Female Student Singers. As preparation for our workshops, we interviewed a director for choirs, Anci Hjulström, who is experienced in leading workshops on the subject, to further our understanding of how a choir leader can conduct scenic choir workshops.
The results of our study show that the choir singers within the choir had different perceptions of how interdisciplinary work contributes to the choir as a whole. Furthermore, the Action Research process that the choir participated in has been shown to encourage the choir members to reflect more on what they do and why they do it. It has also led to them participating more willingly in discussions around musical aspects and reflecting on the use of different tools to improve their performance.}},
