  abstract     = {{This thesis examines how incels on an internet forum construct and organize masculinity and social value in relation to it. Based on observations in the biggest incel forum in the incelosphere, it aims to unravel aspects of how they create their online social reality. Using Connell’s masculinity theory and the theory of value and hierarchy by Haynes and Hickel, this thesis intends to shed light on the importance of these dimensions in the formation of incel culture. Findings of this study suggest that the social system constructed on the incel site is deeply connected to the members masculine expressions, and that their construction of masculinity simultaneously generates social value in a way that reinforces their ideology. It will be argued that this is one purpose of the system, since its members gather to fulfill the social needs that they often express they cannot find offline.}},
