abstract = {{The Swedish energy system is currently in a transition, aiming for carbon neutrality. At the same time, AI technology is developing in a fast manner. These tools come with entirely new possibilities to make data driven decisions, which can revolutionize parts of the energy sector. At the same time, they come with their own challenges. Therefore, their effects must be thoroughly examined if they are to realize their potential, while the effects of potential risks
are minimized.

This thesis examines the effects that these new tools have on the Swedish energy system, as well as the competencies required to use them. The focus is on different kinds of AI-driven forecasts, flexibility services and digital twins, which have been identified as the areas which will be most impacted by AI. The analysis is based on interviews with a variety of actors in the Swedish energy sector, as well as international scientific literature.

Based on the current state of the industry, a number of recommendations for appropriate investments are proposed. These should be done by a suitable actor in the energy sector. These initiatives vary in technical complexity and aim to maximize the system benefits of integration AI tools in the Swedish energy sector.}},
