  abstract     = {{Climate change is expected to increase the frequency of heavy rain events, resulting in major challenges for stormwater management in urban areas. Raingardens, a type of blue-green solution, are a sustainable alternative for stormwater management, which can retain and treat stormwater. This master’s thesis is based on a case study of the raingardens along Neptunigatan in Malmö, Sweden and aims to evaluate their implementation and performance of raingardens in an urban environment. 

The study includes an evaluation of the stormwater and recipient modeling tool StormTac Web. The theoretical treatment efficiencies were calculated in the model and then compared with the measured treatment efficiencies. Additionally, a sensitivity analysis of selected model parameters was performed in the model. Moreover, interviews were conducted to gain a deeper understanding of the purpose of the raingardens at Neptunigatan, collaboration between involved actors and challenges and lessons related to implementation and maintenance. 

The results show differences between theoretical and measured treatment efficiencies, partly explained by uncertainties and limitations in the data used in StormTac Web. The sensitivity analysis identified overflow well height, type of landuse and the share of the facility area relative to the reduced watershed area as influential parameters, while several parameters expected to affect treatment efficiencies showed no impact in the model. The interviews revealed shortcomings in communication, division of responsibility, maintenance planning, and long-term follow-up. 

The study highlights the importance of both technical and organizational aspects for ensuring the long-term functionality of raingardens in urban areas. To ensure a successful implementation of raingardens in an urban environment continuous follow-ups, long-term studies, and clearer guidelines, together with improved collaboration is needed.}},
