  abstract     = {{Practice is a must to get better at something, that is something most people would agree on. If the practice also is enjoyable and motivating, there is a potential to learn even more. This study has investigated how instrumental teachers in the Swedish cultural school teach how to practice to their youngest pupils and how they cooperate with the guardian to motivate the child to practice at home. The report starts with a review of earlier research and literature on the subject. The findings from the literature search can be shortly summarized as the goal of how practice is taught is to make the pupil as independent as possible and be able to develop their own abilities. In the study both teachers at the cultural school and guardians with children attending the cultural school are interviewed to achieve multiple perspectives on children’s practice. The result shows many similarities between the informants where they emphasize the enjoyable and wish that the pupils practice should be without pressure. In the final part it is discussed how the children’s development and performance on their instruments can be balanced with the practice also being fun. Suggestions of further research on how to make more children wanting to learn an instrument is also proposed.}},
