abstract = {{Background: The number of displaced people is increasing, involving major changes in the lives of individuals. It can be challenging to establish one's social life, adapt to a new environment or express emotional needs. Creative activities hold great potential to promote emotional expression and offer a new social context where individuals can express themselves emotionally and experience a sense of social or cultural belonging through occupational engagement.
Aim: To compile and describe how participation in various creative interventions influenced occupational engagement and well-being among refugees and asylum seekers up to 20 years of age.
Method: The literature review included twelve scientific articles from the databases PubMed, CINAHL, and PsycINFO analyzed using integrative analysis.
Results: Creative activities as intervention affected the participants’ opportunities
for emotional expression, social connectedness and occupational engagement. Through
occupational engagement relationships were strengthened, emotional expressions, a sense of being present in the moment, as well as self-image and identity were fostered.
Conclusion: Creative activities positively influenced the ability to express emotions, the sense of belonging, psychological symptoms and occupational engagement. Further research is needed to deepen the understanding of how different creative activities can be used as interventions, as well as how occupational therapist can contribute with their expertise.}},
