  abstract     = {{This bachelor’s thesis examines how responsibility is constructed in relation to digital control through representations of victimized young women and girls, as well as perpetrators, in Swedish policy and legal documents. The study examines the Swedish government’s action programme aimed at combatting men´s violence against women, alongside relevant legislative proposals concerning restraining orders and psychological violence. 

The aim is through a critical discourse analysis, combined with feminist criminology and feminist legal theory, analyze how these documents produce understandings of digital control as a social problem and how particular forms of governance, prevention, and responsibility are legitimized. The analysis demonstrates that digital control is constructed through discourses of risk, protection, and prevention. Victims are often positioned as responsible for managing their own digital safety. Perpetrators are constructed through individualized legal frameworks, obscuring patriarchal and structural power relations. 

The thesis argues that these constructions risk reframing digital control primarily as an issue of individual security rather than as a broader expression of gendered violence and structural inequality. Consequently, responsibility is shifted to victims for risk management and digital safety, while state interventions are legitimized through preventive and security-oriented measures. At the same time, the material also emphasizes the importance of recognizing men’s violence against women and patriarchal power relations. This study thereby contributes to the field of sociology of law by demonstrating how legal and political documents not only regulate violence, but also shape societal understandings of responsibility, prevention, protection, and governance concerning digital control.}},
