  abstract     = {{The purpose of this essay is to uncover how fashion in the royal court during the renaissance can be used to communicate power. To do this I have done research on Queen Elizabeth I and Quenn Christina of Sweden to understand how powerful women of the renaissance between 16th century and mid-17th century dressed. These queens are also women that had the highest position of power in a society where it was abnormal for women to lead. Therefor have I reached through picture analysis how they dressed and how they depicted their visual identity and how they could do political act just through their clothes by using proto-soft-power that allowed women through the use of clothing, manipulate and use clothing to their advantage in circumstances where a woman did not directly occupy a position of power. They would also occupy space and express power through their visual identity. Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Christina are examples of two queens that know how to use their clothing has a way to express and strengthen their political power, but also as a way to show their own identity as intellectual women. The expression proto-soft-power is also interesting as it references to women even though this was a strategi used by both male and female monarchs to strengthens their own and the countries position.}},
