  abstract     = {{Nurses are in need of effective sterile packaging for transporting, storing, handling, preparing and disposing of single use medical devices. At the same time, requirements surrounding sustainability are mounting both from a regulatory and user perspective. Producers need to develop more sustainable options for hospitals with a great variation in waste management practices while not impeding on the nurses’ procedures. This thesis evaluated the usability of sterile barrier systems and found one that supported the way in which nurses wanted to work. This was then turned into a completely mechanically recyclable packaging concept by examining existing market solutions. Another inquiry was made into how signifiers could potentially make packaging that are known to be hard to recycle less prone to user error during waste sorting. However, it did not seem to help although more research should be done on the topic. Branding touchpoints were added to aid the adoption of Ambu’s take-back program, this seems to be an acceptable addition and should be considered.}},
