Arbetsminneskapacitet: relation till verbalt flöde och indirekt minne för inhiberat material
(2007)Department of Psychology
- Abstract
- Processing information in complex everyday life recruites different abilities than limited storage capacity. Working memory, the central executive and inhibition are constructs that have been used to describe this ability of adaptation. This paper investigates the connection between working memory capacity and performances in tasks closely associated to real life situations, i. e. verbal fluency tasks. The paper also investigates if selective generation can induce forgetting through inhibition and, if this is the case, if working memory capacity has any relation to the results. A study of typicality is conducted to provide material to the expereriment.

A study of typicality is conducted to provide material to the expereriment.
The results show that working memory capacity do not predict performances in the applied verbal fluency tasks, but is associated to the amount of errors comitted in an secondary task associated to verbal fluency. An indirect memory test in the form of a lexical decision task does not show an impairment of reactiontimes due to inhibition but supports the distinction drawn between words in the typicality study.
