The source of inspiration when analyzing the semi-structured interviews was the qualitative method Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Findings indicate significant differences in the experience of working in an open-plan office between the cities in the study. Factors relevant to the explanation of these differences are type of work assignment, participation, individual aspects and support and communication. A number of positive and negative aspects of open-plan offices have also appeared. Among the positive are the opportunity to work related exchange and an increased sense of community. The negative aspects are mainly problems with sound level and difficulties with concentration. (Less)
