Spårväg Lund C - Bjärred - En idéstudie
(2010)Civil Engineering - Railway Construction (BSc)
- Abstract
- The thesis is a concept study on a tramway between Lund C - Bjärred. The purpose of this work is to develop possible routes for lightrail traffic between Lund C - Bjärred, and estimate the socio-economic profitability of these. A multi-criteria analysis has been conducted to study the soft parameters. In order to develop the possible routes, a field study has been conducted. The municipalities of Lund and Lomma have been contacted to find out their interests and views on a possible light rail between Lund C - Bjärred. Two study options have been identified. UA1 is located north of highway 16 and UA2 is located south of the road 16. The northern option is 14 km and the southern is 13 km. Stops are placed to cover as many passengers as... (More)

Stops are placed to cover as many passengers as possible. Local expansion plans and appropriate areas for future exploitation have also been taken into account. Travel times and graphic timetables have been developed to study the two options. In order to implement these, acceleration, deceleration and speed of tram have been calculated with respect to the route, number of stops and track geometry. The result is that UA1 has a travel time of 21 min and UA2 has a travel time of 24 min. To cope with the operation of ten-minute traffic, UA1 required six vehicles, whilst UA2 only needed five. The CBA for the two study options are divided into a small and a large expansion. The smaller expansion is based on local comprehensive plans by 2020 and the major expansion includes areas where at present there are no plans for expansion. The results show that UA2, with a large expansion, is the least unprofitable option. In order to justify the establishment of the Light Rail, a multi-criteria analysis can be used in order to determine its effects. Other scenarios that could make a light rail more profitable are to let the Lomma Line operate with Tram Trains to increase passenger numbers, to place the final stop in the centre of Bjärred to reduce the investment cost, or to invest in the reconstruction of road 16 and convert it to lightrail instead.
