- Abstract
- This is a bachelor thesis written at Lund University in cooperation with E.ON Vind
Sverige AB. The thesis is a study that investigates how the surrounding landscape affects
the wind climate at a specific site.
The wind data used comes from three different met masts situated in the ocean, on plain
land and in woodland respectively. The wind analysis is based on five parameters:
turbulence intensity, the wind shear, wind direction, wind frequency distribution and
extreme winds. These are considered as the most important wind factors to analyse when
planning a new park of wind turbines. All analysis is made in Microsoft Excel and
WindPro 9.2.

The result confirms that plain land and oceans, that this far has been the dominant
environment for wind turbines, still can be considered as the most suitable. Here it is easy
and safe to calculate the wind speed at different heights and here is the turbulence
intensity low. To build wind turbines in woodland is a relatively new idea. The winds
here have lower energy content and very high turbulence intensity. The investigations
concerning woodlands suitability for wind turbines are ongoing and are an important
question for most of the big energy producing companies in Sweden.
Most of the results suite well with the wind theory presented. In those cases when the
results are not representative this is above all due to the placements of the met masts. (Less) - Abstract (Swedish)

(Less)
