Abstract
This report presents how far NCC current VDC tools and methods in building construction can be implemented in road and infrastructure projects also what new tools, methods that can be created helped by pre-selected software’s. VDC is well developed within the construction of building and research and resources in the field have been spent under a longer period of time unlike in road and infrastructure construction. 2D drawings is still a big part in road and infrastructure projects and the VDC technology is limited therefore it’s not used as often as in construction of buildings. The purpose with this report is therefore to investigate if VDC is applicable in road and infrastructure projects also how this is manageable. And last what kind... (More)

The purpose with this report is therefore to investigate if VDC is applicable in road and infrastructure projects also how this is manageable. And last what kind of software that should be used to create helpful production adapted VDC-tools. The study is a collaboration between NCC and the writers of this report. Six people with different profession´s in road and infrastructure projects were also interweaved. Course´s in three different software´s and two constructions sites visits was executed. All this contributed to identify how VDC should be implemented in the production of road and infrastructure projects. The produced information indicates that road and infrastructure projects are in need of VDC since it would facilitate the production work. The study also indicates that the best way to apply VDC in the production of road and infrastructure projects are a mix between the different software´s Navisworks, DynaRoad and VDC-Arbetsplats. When building Roads we strongly suggest both Navisworks and VDC-Arbetsplats to display the propulsion and DynaRoad to plan and control the mass haul and transportations of materials. In Infrastructure there is no need for usage of DynaRoad and its mass haul tools because the level of material handling and transportation of mass in these kinds of projects is not that significant. New ideas have appeared along this research. Therefore more resources should be spent for research within VDC, particular VDC that applies for road and infrastructure projects. More resources should be spent in this line of construction to catch up with the section for house construction projects. When the knowledge of VDC and its methods can be properly used within the construction stage misunderstandings can be minimized and time and money can be saved. (Less)
