- Abstract
- Skrylle is a popular recreation area situated between Södra Sandby and Dalby in the Municipality of Lund. It covers an area of roughly 27 km2 and comprises 10 reserves and one national park, Dalby Söderskog. The area presents a mixture of forests and pastures on the northwestern part of Romeleåsen. The Naturum exhibits showcases the flora, fauna and cultural heritage of the area. The area has been exploited for aggregate since the early 1900:s and there is one quarry in the northern outskirts that is still in use. The other quarries have been shut down and the quarry in Skrylle has been renovated and is now part of the nature reserve.

In order to disseminate the geological knowledge to the public the information needs to be accessible in a popular scientific format.
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to produce a review that the Municipality of Lund can use to produce information material on the recreational area in Skrylle. The county has plans to expand the current Naturum exhibit which would house a larger geological section. There are plans by the county to use the information herein to expand the county’s informational webpage.
The study consists of information gathered through literature studies and onsite documentation at the old quarry, “Bergqvistska stenbrottet” now known as Skryllesjön. The paper consists of a short description of the geological history of Skåne, from the Cambrian up to the Neogen. The Cambrian period has been described in greater detail, especially pertaining to Skrylle. The Cambrian Hardeberga Formation as well as the Permian dolerite dykes, exposed at the old quarry, have been documented and described. The blocks that were placed in the old quarry, as part of the renovation of the old quarry, have also been documented and described.
The results show that three out of five Hardeberga Fm. Members are visible at the Skryllesjön quarry. These are the Vik, Brantevik and Tobisvik Members. At places the characteristics of a tide and storm dominated shoreline could be seen. Ichnofossils such as Skolithos and Diplocraterion were identified blocks and at certain parts of the old quarry.

(Less)
