Abstract
In this paper I have examine how Voluntourism and its bisectional content is perceived and justified by operators who are active in the volunteer travel industry. I have taken a qualitative approach and I chose to do an observational study and complementing it with four interviews. Most of my material is obtained from a volunteer organization in Thailand but two of the interviews were made with volunteer travelling agencies in Sweden.
I used organisational theories to examine my material. Voluntourism consists of two organizational parts: the volunteer work and the commercial work. I wanted to study the balance between the project and the volunteers, and what different operators attitudes towards it were.

I used organisational theories to examine my material. Voluntourism consists of two organizational parts: the volunteer work and the commercial work. I wanted to study the balance between the project and the volunteers, and what different operators attitudes towards it were.
The business of Voluntourism is sometimes criticized, and my conclusion was that the two organizational parts live and thrive of each other. The operators appear not to see this as the problem media often presents it to be. Another conclusion was that Voluntourism should not be compared to aid work. It is a new form of travelling and, for example, does not require qualifications. Voluntourism could do much good, and all parties seem to agree on the need for quality assurance in this new field of travel. (Less)
