Abstract
The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to demonstrate how the government agency constituted by the Royal Armoury, Skokloster Castle and The Hallwyl Museum (further on shortened as LSH) works with digitization of their collections.
The aim is also to present which opportunities and problems this process may bring. A presentation of the digitization process in the “centralmuseerna” (museums that are accounted to the swedish Ministry of Culture) is made to create other perspectives. The base of this case study is empirical material derived from interviews. The author applies theories regarding the difference between the physical and the digital, the shift in the role of the museum and how the digitization changes the authoritative museum.... (More)

The author applies theories regarding the difference between the physical and the digital, the shift in the role of the museum and how the digitization changes the authoritative museum. An identification of a possibility within the digitization process at LSH is made - the digitization enables both preserving and exhibiting objects without the one suffering on the behalf of the other. The research is summarized and further discussed in the last chapter. There is no attempt to make universal meaning from the case of LSH or from the “centralmuseerna”. The aim is rather to present and discuss the results and how these may be understood in relation to general theories. (Less)
