Abstract
This thesis included an energy and moisture analysis of an existing 70’s villa. This villa is located in Bjärred, Lomma municipality. The Reference house is a single storey with a foundation of concrete slab and is part of a community association of 20 similar villas’. The work included different types of analyzes and measurements of the villa. A literature study was done to get a better view of the 70's villas’ general construction and its possible shortcomings. A survey consisting of interview questions was conducted in the residential area. This is to give an insight into whether the other residents in the area have had problems or experiences of their own houses. This study were summarized and analyzed. The Reference house previously had problems with mildew smell and it was therefore important to examine this. This was done by measuring moisture content in construction parts with an anticipated higher risk of moisture problems. It also carried out an air leakage test in the reference building. The ability to save energy and get a lower energy cost was investigated by calculations in the computer program VIP-Energy and analyzes of the residents existing electricity and water bills. Energy and moisture analyzes resulted then in a range of proposed solutions to the energy efficiency of the building and to improve the house from moisture standpoint. Moisture calculations were made for both the existing structural parts and also for the new solution proposals. This is to anticipate if the changes resulted in a moisture safer house. Moisture content measurements gave no ruling on the moisture in the structure, however, moisture calculations estimates that some designs ran a greater risk of moisture problems. The chosen proposed solutions would be realistic and applicable for the reference house. The solutions was to control the cross bars in the critical inner wall deemed the most likely source of the mildew smell in the house, check the house cross-tie, possibly drain, installation of moisture controlled ventilation fan RH, paving of the flower-bed in front of the house, extra insulation to the wall at the back, extra insulation to the roof, put in a heat pump, insert the exhaust air heat pump connected to underfloor heating, solar cells and solar panels. Adding extra insulation to the rear or roof make the structure safer from a moisture standpoint, but it does not save much energy. Installation of a heat pump or an exhaust air heat pump saved a lot of energy and would have passed the current requirements for energy from BBR 22. Installation of solar cells and solar collectors also saved a lot of energy. The demands of today are met with this solution. The recommended solutions for the reference house but also generally for 70’s houses was checking the cross-tie, installation of air source heat pump, installation of moisture controlled fans in the wet areas and paving of the flower-bed in front of the house. Generally recommended for the 70’s houses is window replacement and if moisture problems are suspected action must be taken. (Less)
