Two crucial discourses were identified in the study, and these were the discourse of resources and the discourse of “us” and “them”. The discourse of resources frequently refers to and mentions expences and resources, while the discourse of “us” and “them” mentions differences between the unaccompanied asylum-seeking minors and other citizens in Sweden. The outcome of this study showed that the two newspapers tend to write differently from one another on some points, and more alike on other points, they were especially more alike in the newer articles. In conclusion, the two newspapers’ way of writing about the unaccompanied asylum-seeking minors is essential in the sense that a large number of consumers of these two major newspapers are being briefed on a daily basis about the subject. Therefore we want to elucidate the power that the newspapers possess in order to affect people’s views and attitudes towards important issues in our society. We also want to enlighten the relevance of this study for the social work. Our aim is to generate better understanding for unaccmopanied asylum seeking minors in order to improve the work of recepting this group of people into the Swedish society. (Less)
