- Abstract
- In January 2015 the Swedish police force went through the most comprehensive restructure of the organization since it became a public authority in 1965. In connection with the refugee crisis in Europe that culminated in the fall of 2015, the Swedish government decided on the implementation of a law that Sweden would establish a border control. Therefore during the massive restructure, the border control became an additional workload to the police force. Therefore during the massive restructure, the border control became an additional workload to the police force. The reorganization resulted in a rephrasing of the governing law, that stated that the policemen now are answering to „Polismyndigheten‟, rather than the separate „Polismyndigheterna‟. This study aims to investigate experiences from individual employees of the organization concerning the reorganization, and if the border controls have had any considerable impact on the implementation. Through qualitative interviews with five different policemen our thesis resulted in a presentation of what they have experienced to be the most critical problems and how the reorganization and border controls had influenced their day to day tasks. We have analyzed the result from an organizational theory perspective and our main finds was that the policemen‟s experience might be strongly influenced by the different ways of thinking in an organization, either from an instrumental perspective with effectiveness as the main focus or - more commonly - a cultural perspective.
