- Abstract (Swedish)
- Abstract
- The aim of this study was to examine different aspects of ICT-use (information- and communication technology) in relation to stress and exhaustion. The data was collected through an online survey. The participants were 348 employees from six different media companies in Sweden. 52 % were women and 48 % were men. 67 % of the participants were between 40-59 years old and 98 % had an agreement of ≥30 working hours per week. Two established scales were used to measure technology assisted work-related communication during leisure and after-hours availability expectations. Two scales were constructed to measure use of online social networking sites and availability expectations on online social networking sites. The four variables mentioned... (More)

Two established scales were used to measure technology assisted work-related communication during leisure and after-hours availability expectations. Two scales were constructed to measure use of online social networking sites and availability expectations on online social networking sites. The four variables mentioned above are referred to as ICT- variables. Stress and exhaustion were measured with Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-14) and Karolinska Exhaustion Scale (KEDS) respectively. The relations between the variables of the study were measured through correlation analyses. The ICT-variables prediction value for the outcome variables stress and exhaustion was tested with regression analyses. The result showed significant positive correlations between all ICT-variables and the outcome variables stress and exhaustion respectively. The correlations were weak to moderate. The ICT-variables explained 12 % of the variance in stress and 8 % of the variance in exhaustion. The result was consistent with previous research examining different aspects of ICT-use and mental illness. (Less)
