When it comes to contraceptives, this study provides us with an idea as to why responsibility for contraceptives is uneven in our society. When contraception is used to prevent pregnancy, the responsibility is placed on the woman. This is seen in our society as well as in this study. However, the interview participants in this study provided an insight into what happens when the primary function of contraceptives is protecting against STI’s. Namely, the responsibility is far more evenly distributed because now everyone's bodies can be affected. However this is not the only reason for shared responsibility. The analysis shows us, that contraceptives in nonmonogamous relationships is both about the products, but also - and maybe even more importantly - it is about actions, trust, communication and keeping your promises to your primary partner. They are responsible not only for their own bodies, but also their partners and partners partners. (Less)
