(2022) OPSM22 20221Department of Health Sciences
- Abstract (Swedish)
- Bakgrund:
ingrepp.
Syfte:

(Less) - Abstract
- Background:
Surgical site infections (SSI) are the second most common healthcare
associated infection and causes patient suffering. Presurgical showering with chlorhexidine
soap is widely used to prevent SSI amongst all types of surgery. The national guidelines in
Sweden promotes the use of chlorhexidine soap prior to surgery classed as perceptive to
infections.
Aim:
To review published research whether presurgical showering with
chlorhexidine decreases SSI, compared to normal soap, placebo or no showering.
Results:
Using chlorhexidine soap prior to conventional surgery, did not significantly decrease SSI. While using chlorhexidine soap prior to surgery perceptive to infections, only orthopedics

rates of SSI related to the use of chlorhexidine soap.
Conclusion:
Chlorhexidine soap does
promote as an infection preventive measure, but should only be used prior to surgery that is
most perceptive to infections. (Less)
