- Abstract
- The worsening of psychical health issues among young people has widely been discussed over the last few years. Research shows for example that 9% of girls at the age of 16-24 reported anxiety problems in 1989 while 16 years later, in 2005, the same number was 30%. The purpose of this essay was to study and analyze psychiatrists', psychologists' and counselors' view on the resilience and risk factors for youth depression (age 16-24). Beside this, our aim was to study their view on the influence of family environment on treatment and recovery. Data were collected with qualitative interviews with eight informants within the psychiatric care. Beside this, our aim was to study their view on the influence of family environment on treatment and recovery. Data were collected with qualitative interviews with eight informants within the psychiatric care. The sense of coherence frameworks was a useful theory in order to analyze the limits of resilience and risk factors and in order to present the salutogenic approach on health issues. We also found attachment theory applicable to our purpose and to family aspects in particular. Our conclusion was that our informants generally identified the same resilience and risk factors but we found significant differences in their angle of approach. Furthermore, we found that family environment factors were regarded as important for the recovery but our informants had different opinions when it came to the importance of family participation during the treatment.
