- Title: Teaching improvisation in different musical genres My curiosity for teaching improvisation in different genres emerged when I started playing with musicians who had another musical background than my own. I wanted to acquire a better understanding of what improvisation means to them and how improvisation is taught in their genre. For my study I have chosen the method of qualitative interview, and then analyzed and discussed the results of these interviews based on improvisation textbooks. The result of my study shows that there are big differences but also some similarities in the methods of teaching improvisation. The study shows that jazz and organ music have some similarities and folk music and blues have likenesses in the methods of teaching improvisation.
Min nyfikenhet på improvisationsundervisning i olika genrer föddes när jag själv spelade med musiker med annan musikalisk bakgrund än min egen. Jag vill få en större förståelse för vad improvisation betyder för dem och hur man undervisar improvisation i deras genre. Syftet med studien är att få insikt i fyra pedagogers utlärningsmetoder i improvisation. De fyra pedagogerna representerar genrerna jazz, blues, orgelmusik och folkmusik. Jag valde dessa fyra av två anledningar. Den första anledningen är för att man undervisar i improvisation i alla fyra och den andra är för att improvisation är en väsentlig del av dessa genrer. Jag har även belyst improvisation i litteraturen på olika sätt i min bakgrund. För min undersökning valde jag den kvalitativa intervjun som metod och sedan har jag analyserat, och diskuterat intervjusvaren med litteratur om improvisation som grund. Resultatet av min studie visar på stora skillnader men även en del likheter i undervisningsmetoderna mellan de olika genrerna. I min studie kom jag bland annat fram till att det finns likheter mellan jazz och orgelmusik och att även folkmusik och blues påminner om varandra i sina undervisningsmetoder för improvisation.
