- Abstract
- This paper investigates how Iraqi people living in Sweden are portrayed by Swedish media. The studies have been done through reading and examine thirtyone articles from four different newspapers. The theoretical frameworks that have been used are stereotyping and the discourse of "the other". From this perspective articles have been selected in order to find examples of if Iraqis are described in accordance with five kinds of stereotyping; threat, burden, victim, asset and exotic strangers. Even though the study was done in a small scale it does indicate a frequent use of negative stereotypes when describing Iraqis migrating or seeking asylum in Sweden between 2003 and May 2008.
