Abstract
In Denmark it is the state that decides whether or not individuals are able to get a legal and a physical gender change . The law that is in use for this is an old law from 1929, that originally was meant to cover the context of castration of sexual predators, pedophiles, homosexuals(!) and rapists. Today this law is only used in relation to transsexualism. The law forms the ground for the making of different criterias you have to achieve before you are able to get an authorization for a castration and a gender change. A big part of the decision on whether or not the criterias are attained, is made at Sexologisk Klinik, a clinic under Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen.

A big part of the decision on whether or not the criterias are attained, is made at Sexologisk Klinik, a clinic under Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen.

In this assignment I study how the law and the treatment system are associated, what the consequences are, especially for those affected by it, mainly transsexuals who wish for a gender change. Non-the less I question, how different structures in society such as heteronormativity, the bi-polar gender system, sexism and heterosexism decides how the law is formulated and how it is used, and at the same time, how this helps maintaining the same structures and norms.
