Abstract
In the paper three women with vulvar vestibulitis (long-term pain condition during sexual intercourse) were interviewed to find which conceptions the women experience exist about vestibulitis and how the women they self feel about the condition. Furthermore it was examined if and how the construction of vulvar vestibulitis affects the identity of the women. The method used was half-structured interviews with interview guide. Foucault's discourse analysis was used to analyse the interviews. Several constructions of vestibulitis were revealed from the interviews. One example is that the women experience that society define vestibulitis as a result of the women's personality and sensitive psyche. Another example is the construction of vulvar vestibulitis as caused by candida infections - an idea the women sympathize with. Two constructions of vestibulitis that emerge when the women talked about how the pain condition had affected their lives are vestibulitis as a personal hell and vestibulitis as an unknown and invisible problem. Several of the constructions risk causing subject positions for the women where guilt and shame are possible consequences. No general conclusions can be drawn from the result as that was not the aim of the study. (Less)
