Bonden i Graven Bredvid - En osteologisk studie av den medeltida befolkningen i Norra Nöbbelöv och deras skador på skeletten

Rosenkvist, Magnus (2005)
Historical Osteology
Abstract
This paper is the result of an osteological study of the skeletal remains uncovered during an archaeological excavation of the medieval cemetery in Norra Nöbbelöv. The purpose of the study is to compare the material from the rural site (Norra Nöbbelöv) with materials excavated from the old medieval graveyards in the city of Lund. The aim is to try and shed

some light on the question of whether there is any difference in the occurrence and frequency of fractures and osteoarthritis in the materials compared. The first section of the paper consists of a short historical background of Norra Nöbbelöv and Lund, a chapter on ethics, general results of the analysis and the methods used. This

section was co-authored by Ulla Zagal-Mach and Åsa... (More)

some light on the question of whether there is any difference in the occurrence and frequency of fractures and osteoarthritis in the materials compared. The first section of the paper consists of a short historical background of Norra Nöbbelöv and Lund, a chapter on ethics, general results of the analysis and the methods used. This

section was co-authored by Ulla Zagal-Mach and Åsa Strandh. The second section consists of the results, methods and discussion regarding fractures and osteoarthritis. In this section the author focuses on his main questions: Is there any difference between the medieval rural farming village of Norra Nöbbelöv and the medieval city of Lund with regard to fractures and osteoarthritis, if there is what could they depend on? And the second question: Is there any difference between the male and female individuals of Norra Nöbbelöv with regard to fractures and osteoarthritis?

The author hopes that this study will inspire to further work in this area and he also recommends that future comparisons be based on a larger sample. (Less)
