Abstract
The background for this assignment is based upon a wonder about why the Danish and the Swedish law differ on the subject of prostitution. The background for this assignment is based upon a wonder about why the Danish and the Swedish law differ on the subject of prostitution. In relation to this the object of the assignment is to clarify which discurses that are dominating the research on prostitution done in Denmark and Sweden. To conduct a study of this, a thorough examination of a Danisk and a Swedish report of prostitution is done. Critical discourse analyses, according to Norman Faircloug serves as both the theoretical and the methodological basis for the analysis of the to repports. Whith inspiration from previous research, four discurses are defined beforehand. These are functionalism, pragmatism ad abolitionism. During the examination a fifth is discovered. This is the discourse of the welfare state. The analysis establishes that the repports predominantly call upon the discourse of the welfare state. This cause that prostitution is mainly seen as a social problem where society is held responsible for causes and effects. It is at the same time referring to the use of this discourse that the reports differs the most. In the Danish report the centre of attention is how to help the prostitutes recovering from the consequences of the prostitution whereas the responsibility of the state seems to be highlighted in the Swedish report.
