Several of researches shows that youths seek other kinds of participatory channels for political engagements then the representative structure can give them. Citizens who participate in the political process develop an increased knowledge about the society and the more knowledge about the society the larger reason to participate. This thesis was done with the assumption that the experience of participation in a participatory theatre generates educational effects. Effects that will give the participant a broaden knowledge and understanding for given issues within politics and society, issues that the participatory theatre in an interactive and fictive society creates. The study has also explored if the method can enlarge the participants willingness to get engaged in social important issues and have an impact on the participants previous attitudes. This special case handles the issues of segregation and refugees presents situation, background and experiences. The participants in the participatory theatre were youths from High Schools in Malmö, Sweden.

The research on theatre as a method to create educational effects has so far been rather narrowed. Even though the practical reality didn?t match up on all criteria to the theoretical framework, this study has however mostly generated positive conclusions. With a greater understanding and openness for issues of segregations; a larger interest and deeper knowledge of the complexity of refugee questions; a better political confidence, participatory theatre confirm a relationship to the educational effects. However there is a gap between the youth's willingness of getting engaged in social important issues to practical action in reality. Unfortunately, because of time-limit, this study didn?t have the opportunity to follow up how the youth's enlarged engagement was taken care of. The capacity of taking action within a structure is due to the freedom of action and the sensation of power. Unfortunately those two elements were rather limited to the participants, due to certain rules in the participatory theatre structure and because of a time-limited process.
