The state of Rajasthan is one of the poorest and least developed in India with high illiteracy. The project started out as a small scale micro-level initiative but has subsequently been integrated into state-wide strategies for meeting the educational needs of deprived rural communities. Lok Jumbish consists of peoples participation and grass-root level is responsibly for the projects progress. Although Lok Jumbish started as an educational project it has recognised other important forms of development such as women's development and gender equity. (Less)
