Abstract
This Masters' thesis is a study on the information behaviour of hospital personnel at the University Hospital in Lund, Sweden. A questionnaire was distributed to 301 nurses and physicians working in the intensive care unit, the population was reduced to 244 persons. The response rate was 52%, i.e. 125 questionnaires were completed. Nurses constituted 68 % of the population. The survey focuses on the use of the hospital library and preference of information sources in relation to educational factors, such as time since graduation, PBL, and the practice of EBM and EBN, respectively. The results show that the physicians use the hospital library more frequently than the nurses. However, in terms of information resource preferences both... (More)

The results show that the physicians use the hospital library more frequently than the nurses. However, in terms of information resource preferences both physicians and nurses tend to turn to their colleagues first of all. In order to attract more users the hospital library would have to improve accessibility and to extend their opening hours. The library should also offer better physical facilities and make the atmosphere more amenable to studying in. Moreover, the library needs to be seen in order to be fully appreciated. The librarians could market the library with services such as a web site tailor-made for specific professional target groups, and offer courses in database information seeking. (Less)
