We live in a world today that is characterized by the Internet. We can get hold of people on the other side of the globe whenever we want and we can purchase what ever we want, from who ever we want, anytime we want. This development has made it important to find systems of dealing with the payment in a safe and secure way, both for a private person as well as for a company, when you do transactions with people far away, and those systems is the core of this essay. As a private person you sometimes need to transfer money to family members who live abroad and you can then use clean payments. This means that banks all over the world has systems which makes it easier when their customs wishes to transfer money abroad. As a company you normally need a more advanced system for your money transfer, as you require the other part to deliver or perform something in order to receive the money. The system documentary collection through bank can work during these circumstances since you then have your bank acting like a middleman. The bank will forward the document from the seller to the buyer and the buyer is then obligated to make the payment. This system means that the buyer can’t get hold of the document or the merchandise without paying. There is also a system called bank guarantees, when the buyers bank take on the responsibility to make the payment to the seller, if the buyer can’t do this himself. This means a bigger security for the seller, since he is practically guaranteed to receive his money. The final system that is addressed in this paper is documentary letter of credits. This is a system that is based on a number of parts, which are to make sure that the seller presents the correct documents and that the buyer pays. Since there are more parts involved than just the seller and buyer involved in this system, it can be difficult to define who is responsible for the risk of the document or the merchandise. Finally all the systems will be compared with documentary letter of credits. (Less)
