Abstract
Technology is playing a vital role for most companies to stay competitive over others. The global market has become very competitive so that it drives companies to adapt themselves to survive on this intense competition. Efficiency of an enterprise can be increased by integrating systems to business partners to create sustainable competitive advantage in the long run. System integration can be done by adopting the Business-to-Business e-commerce technology that will help connect linkages with external organizations. Due to the complication of system integrations, risk management is often overlooked because project managers are overwhelmed with the occurring problems and deadlines. In fact, if risks are properly identified and handled, the integration project can be even more smoothly implemented. This thesis is to find out major risk areas for system integration and assess them in the context of enterprise risk management. The theoretical part provides understanding towards system integration and risk management while the empirical data is gathered via interviews with people who have experience and knowledge about the system integrating implementation. The results of the study present the major areas of risks that should be considered, including the assessment methods, when planning a system integration project. This will provide more understanding towards risk management in the area of extended-enterprise systems. Enterprises can use it not only to manage the IT system as a technical perspective, but also as an essential management function of the organization. (Less)
