Abstract
Doctors' health experiences are of importance in the daily debate on sick-leaves and health in general. The way in which doctors constitute meaning about health may give some explanation as to why the percentage of people on sick-leave rises while the employers are trying to improve the well-being in the workplaces. The purpose of this phenomenological and explorative study is therefore to find out how eight doctors create meaning of the health concept. The purpose of this phenomenological and explorative study is therefore to find out how eight doctors create meaning of the health concept. We interviewed four Persian and four Swedish doctors who all work in different fields of medicine in Sweden. To get an understanding of these doctors' perceptions of health we used the techniques of Meaning Construction Analysis (MCA) and Minerva 2.0.0.0. The results are that doctors' perceptions of health depend rather on the field in which the doctor is working and individual experiences of life, than cultural experiences or age. We also found that there is some difference between male and female doctors' perceptions of health. Keywords: health, doctor, phenomenology, persian, swedish, world health organisation, meaning constitution. (Less)
