Abstract
This essay is a qualitative study on the adolescence of immigrant youth. The main purpose of the study was to make research on five immigrant youths experiences of how the impulses from different cultures have an influence on their identity work. The questions raised in the study concerned the everyday life of the youths, how the interaction between different cultures effected the youths thoughts of their own origin and cultural belonging, important individuals and activities, relationship and affections for their country of origin and Sweden, and finally how does the youths describe their cultural belonging today. This essay is a qualitative study on the adolescence of immigrant youth. The main purpose of the study was to make research on five immigrant youths experiences of how the impulses from different cultures have an influence on their identity work. The questions raised in the study concerned the everyday life of the youths, how the interaction between different cultures effected the youths thoughts of their own origin and cultural belonging, important individuals and activities, relationship and affections for their country of origin and Sweden, and finally how does the youths describe their cultural belonging today. I found that the youths considered cultural differences to be a part of their everyday life, they didn´t think much about them. I also found that there was a difference in how close they were tied to their country of origin and its culture, and that tie has an influence on their cultural identity. (Less)
