- Abstract
- The main purposes of this essay was to identify motives for, and to study a project called "contractors in social welfare" introduced in the municipality of Stockholm in 2001. The aim of the project was to introduce quasi-markets in social welfare. We also intended to investi-gate whether there is a tendency towards vouchers within this project. The essay also contains a comparison between the project and the introduction of quasi-markets in geriatric care in Sweden during the 1990´s. The primary as well as the secondary sources are documents of various kinds connected to the project "contractors in social welfare" and to privatisation. - The main purposes of this essay was to identify motives for, and to study a project called "contractors in social welfare" introduced in the municipality of Stockholm in 2001. The aim of the project was to introduce quasi-markets in social welfare. We also intended to investi-gate whether there is a tendency towards vouchers within this project. The essay also contains a comparison between the project and the introduction of quasi-markets in geriatric care in Sweden during the 1990´s. The primary as well as the secondary sources are documents of various kinds connected to the project "contractors in social welfare" and to privatisation. The main conclusions were that the ideological motives were the most salient. However, the economical motives probably were of greater importance than what was claimed in the project and the following debate. There were indications in the sources that vouchers may be a future solution for social welfare but nothing certain could be said. It was evident that there were a resemblance in motives for privatization in the project, as well as for geriatric care in the 1990´s. (Less)
